Mesekon’s new cobot welding cell streamlines the welding process and improves welding quality. With the help of the cobot, Mesekon has implemented a compact-sized cell where the user-friendly cobot speeds up operation and enhances the welder’s work.
– With the help of Lead Through movement, the cobot can be manually directed to the desired welding points and turned into optimal welding positions, says ABB’s Area Sales Manager Juha Mainio.
Mesekon has long sought a high-tech robotic solution. The package delivered by ABB and Kemppi met the market needs.
– Automation brings efficiency to work as well as saves energy and materials. The introduction of the cobot was easy in cooperation with our ABB-Kemppi-Mesekon trio, adds Mesekon’s Sales Director Tero Nättiaho.
Robotics improve work safety in addition to quality
The cobot is versatile to use and is extremely reliable and safe to cooperate with people. Unlike industrial robots, the cobot’s sensors prevent potential dangerous situations and collisions with people or other robots.
– Kemppi’s torch and ABB’s cobot form a whole that is intuitive to use. Its operation is logical and it fits perfectly with our demanding welding needs, says cobot operator Roni Rautala.
The cobot unit includes the ABB GoFa cobot, the Kemppi AX Mig welding machine, and the Kemppi GXe-C welding torch. In addition to uniformity and repeatability, the benefits of the robot are seen in work ergonomics and safety, as the welder is no longer exposed to harmful gases generated by welding.
– The cobot also improves work safety by handling long-lasting heat-producing multi-bead welds on behalf of the operator, thus also minimizing exposure to welding gases, Juha Manio adds.

Customers get the best benefit from cooperation
The long-standing cooperation between Mesekon and Kemppi has always provided customers with up-to-date and top-quality welding expertise that meets the needs of even the most demanding structures. ABB’s expertise in robotics is a fruitful addition to the collaboration.
With the cobot, Mesekon’s hybrid expertise in standards expands into robotics, and now production can meet the requirements of the oil and gas industry’s Norsok standards. This benefits, among others, offshore customers.
– ABB is an important partner for us and has been with us in developing welding automation and the cobot, which has now been successfully implemented at Mesekon, says Artturi Salmela, Product Manager at Kemppi Oy.
